Praia Grande

Situated on the eastern shores of the mouth of the River Arade is the wide sandy stretch of Praia Grande. Translated as "big beach," it is the largest of the riverside beaches in Ferragudo.

The northern end of the beach is framed by a small cliff that is home to the 16th-century fort of São João do Arade, originally built to protect the coastline from pirate attacks, and now a private residence. This location adds a historical charm to the beach.

Praia Grande is Ferragudo's main beach and as such has plenty of facilities such as cafes and shops. However, due to its popularity, the beach can become busy during the summer months, so it is recommended to arrive early to secure a prime spot to soak up the sun.
