Staying in the Central Algarve resorts you are in a great location for getting out and about and exploring all the Algarve has to offer. You can reach either end of the Algarve in approximately 1hour 15 minutes.
Boats will take you to see from afar the gorgeous Terracota cliffs of the Algarve coast line. You will explore the caves and rock formations dotted along the coast, that would never be noticed from the shore.
You can sail up the Guadiana River which marks the border between Spain and Portugal, and even pop across the border and see some Spanish culture too.
There is always a market to visit somewhere in the Algarve, where you can purchase your local produce or have fun haggling over things.

Lagos, in the west of the Algarve, has a lovely little zoo with smaller animals and a petting farm.
For the last 9 years the Algarve has offered all visitors an opportunity to visit "Fiesa", a sand sculpture exhibition, which has a different theme every year, this year is "Idols". Sculptors from around the globe meet here each year to produce a fantastic selection of sand sculptures.
There are some beautiful rural villages to discover, and many people choose to explore these on the popular jeep safari, where you are taken off the beaten track and get a real feel for the old Algarve with its traditions and Handicrafts.
Portugal and the Algarve have a great history and some of the larger towns contain some great monuments and sites. Visit the Algarves ancient capital at Silves. Go to Sagres, base of the early Portuguese navigators. See Cape St. Vincent, Europes most western point. Explore Monchique, a spa town and highest point in the Algarve. Discover ancient Lagos with its colourful old town and cobbled streets full of history and a stunning golden chapel.
