The Eastern Algarve is the region that stretches from Faro to Vila Real de Santo António, where Portugal borders Spain via the Guadiana River. Quite unlike the terracotta cliff backed beaches along the coastline of the Central and Western Algarve, many beaches in the East are located on islands within the Ria Formosa Natural park, (an area of immense natural beauty and one of the 7 Natural Wonders of Portugal) and can only be reached by boat.
